Packaging your hold luggage
Things not to carry – (if possible):
- Valuables (phone, wallet etc.)
- Passport (containing visa)
- University Acceptance letter and/or CAS email
- Financial statement
- Address of university / accommodation
- Tickets/online flight booking
- Pocket money for any initial costs (taxi fares, food etc.)
- Clothing (a jumper, waterproof etc.)
- Clearly Label your luggage with your personal details in English
- Check your baggage allowance, exceeding this could be extremely costly
- Photocopy all your important documents (passport, visa) and passport photos
- Clothes – make sure you pack items suitable for all seasons (if you are coming from a very different climate, it may be cheaper to buy suitable clothes when you arrive)
- Photographs of loved ones and reminders of home are a great way to brighten up your room and help you feel settled
- Electrical items, including a travel adaptor
- Any other personal items
- Books – these will take up considerable baggage allowance and it is unlikely that you will receive your reading list until you have enrolled
- Towels, bedding and kitchenware – these will take up valuable space in your luggage. They can be bought locally
- Banned or restricted items – these can be viewed on the country’s Customs Immigration websites
